‘All I could ever buy were swimsuits for larger women while my friends bought bikinis at Topshop. Wearing skimpy tops, let alone a bikini, was totally out of the question. My breasts have always been far too big for my 5ft 3in frame - size 34H. Men would look not admiringly but disbelievingly, sometimes muttering, "Look at the size of those." I couldn't run because my breasts would hurt. My bras always cut into my flesh and I often had back pain. When I started earning, my dream was to get my breasts reduced and to be able to wear a bikini, so I discussed it with my mum and my GP, who both agreed it would be a good idea. ‘I didn't want a long NHS wait, so I went private and decided to have the operation in March 2003, financing the £5,000 cost with a bank loan. The sugeon agreed to reduce my breast size to a C/D cup. When I came round from the anaesthetic, I noticed the difference immediately - I couldn't believe how much more of my body I could see! I took two weks off work and, within a few months, my breasts had fully recovered from the scarring, bruising and swelling. I no longer feel self-conscious about my body because everything looks so well proportioned. Now I love summer and beach holidays because I can wear what I want. As a size 10 to 12, I can even wear things that reveal my cleavage!'
