About Non-Surgical Solutions

About non-surgical solutions

Here at The Harley Medical Group’s clinic in Dublin, we take a holistic approach to the care and rejuvenation of your skin, through the use of an extensive range of non-surgical solutions. Call us to find out exactly what we offer and which treatments are right for you, to ensure that we achieve the results that you are after.

Choose us and we will start by organising a face-to-face consultation with your very own nurse counsellor. He or she will ask questions in order to understand why you are considering non-surgical treatments and then conduct Computerised Photo Imaging Skin Analysis. The results from this analysis are very important as they will allow us to create a tailored skin care programme that is right for you and the results you wish to achieve.

Trust this approach to give you the younger-looking skin that you want and to allow us to do what we do best, specialise in long-lasting results.

The Harley Medical Group was established in 1983 and has since become a leader in the field of cosmetic surgery, plastic surgery and non-surgical solutions. In our clinics across the UK and the Republic of Ireland, we offer the most advanced medical techniques to clients who are looking to rejuvenate and refresh their appearance.

Non Surgical Solutions - Taking the next step

It is important to think carefully about the results you wish to achieve from undergoing non-surgical cosmetic procedures before you commit to anything. During the initial consultation, your nurse counsellor will ask you to discuss your hopes for the procedure and your reasons for choosing it, so that they can fully understand and pass this information on to the nurse therapist carrying out your treatment.

We understand that there are many different reasons why people choose to have non-surgical treatments, so whether your reason is because you have an important event coming up (such as your wedding) that you wish to look your best for, or you simply want to rejuvenate your skin so you look as young as you feel, we will take it seriously and advise you on the best course of action.

Visit our Dublin clinic to undergo a Computerised Photo Imaging Skin Analysis, which will give you a detailed understanding of the condition of your skin prior to your treatment. The test will highlight any damage done to your skin by exposure to the sun, as well as any lines, wrinkles, blemishes, acne, or any other skin condition.

The results of the analysis will allow our qualified aesthetic practitioners to create a tailored programme for your skin, allowing you to look just the way you want to.

Choosing a Non Surgical Clinic - what to consider

The effects of most non-surgical treatments are temporary, lasting a few months, and while they do not involve surgery, they are invasive and therefore carry their own risks. As with any invasive procedure, it is essential to fully understand the process, and to assess the risks and benefits before you commit to anything.

The Harley Medical Group is registered with the Independent Healthcare Advisory Services (IHAS), specifically the Treatments You Can Trust register, which allows customers to find safe and responsible practitioners of injectable treatments such as Botox and make an informed decision on the clinic they choose.

HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT PROVIDER FOR YOU:

Step 1 Talk to friends & relatives and do your research

The first step to finding a cosmetic surgery clinic that you can trust is to ask for recommendations from close friends, relatives, or your GP. While these should not form the sole basis for your choice, they are a great place from which to start your research. Once you have gathered recommendations, it is worth checking with the official governing bodies to see if the cosmetic surgeons you are researching are fully registered.

Step 2 Choosing your clinic

In Northern Ireland, the UK and Wales, all cosmetic surgery clinics must be registered with the relevant body, but there is no such regulatory body for the Republic of Ireland. This means that it is essential for you to do thorough research when choosing a clinic located in the Republic of Ireland, to ensure that they meet the same high standards as set in the UK and Northern Ireland – one good way to ensure that this is the case is to choose a clinic that is part of a group, such as The Harley Medical Group, that also has registered clinics in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland.

One of the most important things to bear in mind is that it is essential to stay away from clinics that try to sell you procedures. The Harley Medical Group will only ever put you in touch with registered, trained, and qualified cosmetic surgeons, nurses, or aesthetic practitioners.

Set your standards

The following advice is taken from the regulatory standards set in the UK and given to patients looking for a reputable cosmetic surgery clinic:

  • You should look into the quality of their treatment and services as well as the safety and cleanliness of their premises and equipment.
  • Ask to see the qualifications and skills of their staff, their provisions for training and professional development and their procedures for handling any complaints.
  • Research the procedure and understand the risks, side-effects and possible complications.
  • Choose a registered qualified and reputable practitioner who has been appropriately trained and can provide you with the necessary care after the procedure.
  • Ask the right questions to help you decide on whether to have the treatment and what other alternatives exist - don't be pressured into having treatment immediately.

Step 3 Who should carry out these treatments?

Always choose clinics and aesthetic practitioners that are fully trained and qualified to carry out non-surgical treatments such as laser hair removal, Botox and other dermal fillers, skin peels, and medical microdermabrasion. Laser and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) clinics must be regulated by the Healthcare Commission (HC), and if they are you will be able to find their details on the current HC register.

Botox is prescription-only, so it is important that you attend a clinic that employs registered nurse independent prescribers, doctors, or dentists, as these are the only people that are legally able to prescribe Botox (recently rebranded as Vistabel, for cosmetic use). If you are not sure, ask the person carrying out the Botox at your chosen clinic whether he or she is a:

  • doctor registered with the General Medical Council,
  • dentist registered with the General Dental Council,
  • nurse registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Council

It is important to know that official prescribers (as set out above) may delegate the actual administration of Botox to a person who they know to be suitably qualified and experienced. If you are not convinced that they are competent, it is essential that you make your feelings known.

Whilst other non-surgical treatments are not regulated in the same way, it is important that you satisfy yourself that the person carrying out your procedure has adequate experience and that the premises they are operating from are clean, safe and suitable for the administration of non-surgical treatments.

Useful Questions to ask

Below is a list of questions that you should ask, or find out the answers to, before opting to undergo any cosmetic surgery procedure or non-surgical treatment. This is not an exhaustive list and we advise that you ask as many questions as you need in order to feel comfortable about the process from start to finish.

  • Who will carry out the treatment?
  • How long have they been trained in this treatment and do they have a certificate of/or accreditation?
  • How frequently do they carry it out?
  • Do they have professional indemnity insurance?
  • Is the treatment right for me?
  • How long does the treatment take?
  • Is the treatment painful and if so what form of anaesthesia is used?
  • Is all equipment used sterile and used only for me?
  • For dermal fillers - what is the filler made of and do I need a test to find out if I am allergic to it?
  • For Botox® - will I see a doctor, dentist or an Independent Nurse Prescriber and will he or she prescribe the Botox®?
  • What are the risks involved?
  • Are there any other treatment options available for me to achieve the results I want?
  • Do you have any 'before and after' photographs that I can see?
  • What type of aftercare regime will I need after treatment?
  • Will I need pain relief following treatment?
  • Will I have swelling or bruising and can these be treated?
  • At what stage will I be able to judge the results of treatment?
  • Will I be reviewed after the treatment - and is this included in the price
  • How long do the results last?
  • What will be the cost of the treatment, including any materials I may need after it?
  • Will I need or benefit from a course of treatments?
  • If I change my mind and decide not to complete the treatment, do I still need to pay the full cost for the treatment?
  • What will happen if I am unhappy with any aspect of the treatment?
  • Will my photographs be shown to anyone else for any reason?

Remember: Never be afraid to ask questions, no matter how trivial they may seem, and ensure that you completely understand the procedure before you commit to anything.
