Warm weather has led to increase in consultations, says cosmetic specialist

An American cosmetic surgery specialist has suggested that the weather can have a profound effect on the number of people coming forward to book themselves in for cosmetic treatments.

Chicago-based plastic surgeon Dr Brian Braithwaite believes a mild start to the year has prompted people to bring forward their planned procedures and strive to get their ideal beach bodies a little earlier.

Dieter turns to cosmetic surgery to complete new look

A hairdresser who lost almost eight stone after sticking to a strict diet has spoken out about her new body.

Holly Wilson joined a Cambridge Weight Plan class when she weighed 17st 4lbs, but through super-strong willpower and the help of friends, she is now down to 10st and is able to fit into size 10 clothes rather than size 24.

Superstar Tom says ‘never’ to plastic surgery

More than half of his lifetime since he found worldwide stardom, courtesy of Top Gun, Tom Cruise has insisted that he has never resorted to plastic surgery to help keep his looks – and he never will.

He has spoken out in an interview with Playboy magazine, in which he admitted he doesn’t know how he has managed to stay looking so youthful – and claims it’s unlikely to be because of his lifestyle.

Technology may be to blame for sagging skin, say experts

Use of new technology such as laptops and smartphones could be causing users’ skin to lose elasticity.

That’s the view of some cosmetic surgery experts, who say that the skin on a person’s face can begin to sag if they spend long periods of time with their head bent forward. The increased use of digital goods such as smartphones and laptops is believed to be to blame.

Cosmetic treatments now socially acceptable say Canadian women

More than eight out of 10 Canadian women believe injectable cosmetic treatments such as Botox have become mainstream, according to a poll.

And a third of those questioned said they had become as commonplace as colouring their hair or teeth whitening, according to the survey, which questioned 800 women.

NICE may issue final guidance on use of injectables to treat migraines within a month

The body tasked with providing advice to the NHS and healthcare professionals about new drugs could issue final guidelines on the use of Botox to treat chronic migraines within one month.

The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) has decided that the injectable can be used as a treatment, and registered stakeholders now have until May 25 to put forward any objections. If none are received, final guidance could be released in the next month, according to a report by the Press Association.

Cosmetic surgery 3D imaging becoming more and more important

Cosmetic surgeons are increasingly turning to new 3D technology in order to help give patients as much information as possible about the procedure they’re about to undergo.

According to a report by Private Healthcare UK, more and more doctors are now choosing to use imaging technology which is capable of showing a cosmetic surgery patient how he or she is likely to look once the treatment has been carried out. A three-dimensional image of the patient’s face is created and then altered as required to show the likely results of the surgery.

Patients urged to use regulated laser hair removal clinics

Women looking for permanent hair removal should think twice about going to an unregulated beautician or clinic for the treatment.

According to Professor Harry Mosely, president of the British Medical Laser Association, patients are putting themselves at risk of serious burns, and even blindness and scarring, by choosing clinics or salons with little experience and which are not regulated.
