BREAST ENLARGEMENT SURGERY

Breast Enlargement

Breast enlargement (Allergan implants) is one of the most popular Cosmetic Surgery procedures. Small breasts or breasts that have decreased in size following childbirth can be a source of embarrassment to a woman. But breast enlargement is one way to make you feel more confident and feminine again.

"After each birth my shape changed dramatically and my boobs sagged and lost their shape completely. For me, having a Breast Augmentation wasn't about getting bigger boobs but getting them back to the shape and size that was right for my figure. Having the surgery has made me feel more feminine and given me much more confidence in myself."  Angela, 38 had a Breast Augmentation after she had her fourth child.

Breast enlargement surgery involves surgically inserting an implant (Allergan) behind the natural breast tissue to increase the size of the breast. Breast augmentation is a similar procedure to breast enlargement surgery but is usually conducted to create better symmetry.

You can choose the size and shape of your implants to suit your body shape. Our surgeons pride themselves on the beautiful natural results they achieve.

THE PROCEDURE FOR BREAST ENLARGEMENT SURGERY

The implant (Allergan) is usually inserted through an incision made in the natural crease beneath the breast. It is also possible to make the incision in the armpit or around the edge of the areola.

The procedure generally requires an overnight stay in hospital but can be performed as a day case.

A breast enlargement operation will be performed under a general anaesthetic and will take approximately 1-1 ˝ hours. A small incision will be made in the crease of the underside of the breast, the armpit or lower edge of the areola. Your Cosmetic Surgeon will advise you on the most appropriate procedure for you.

Once the incision is made, the Cosmetic Surgeon will create a pocket for the implant to lie in. This may be either beneath the muscle or beneath the breast tissue. Your size and shape will determine the outcome of the position of the implant and will be discussed fully at consultation with the Cosmetic Surgeon. Following the surgery you will have stitches (these may be dissolvable) in place, covered with a dressing and a sports bra. You will be advised to have your stitches removed, if applicable, at seven days after your operation, or in accordance with your Cosmetic Surgeon's instructions, and to continue to wear the sports bra 24 hours a day for up to three months.

TYPES OF BREAST ENLARGEMENT (AUGMENTATION) IMPLANTSBreast enlargement before and after image

There are currently two different types of implant available - silicone and saline. We use Allergan implants. Silicone implants are widely used as they give a more natural shape and feel. A booklet entitled "Breast Implants", produced by the Department of Health, is available from your clinic to accompany this information, and provides a full understanding of your breast implants clinical safety studies and advice on breast feeding.

Your Cosmetic Surgeon will advise you on the most appropriate implant for yourself and discuss issues specific to the implants such as capsular contracture and when you need to change the implants.

RECOVERY FROM BREAST ENLARGEMENT SURGERY

Breast enlargement cosmetic surgery before and after imageFollowing the surgery, you will need to keep your breasts well supported. Your stitches and/or dressings will be removed after seven days, at which time you can return to work.

You may also have drainage tubes in your breasts - these will be removed the day after your surgery, before you go home. Your breasts will be firm and swollen at first, and will take several weeks to settle and adapt a more natural position and feel. By wearing your sports bra, you will feel more comfortable and have the necessary support.
