Chest Reduction Surgery

Mens Chest Reduction

Enlarged male breasts (Gynaecomastia) is cause for concern for a lot of men but nowadays male chest reduction surgery can remove this embarrassing excess fat (Man Boobs).

Excess fat around the chest area is a common condition in which fat builds up beneath the breast. A chest reduction procedure will remove these pockets of fat and reshapes the area of concern.

If you ever felt like your chest is not looking the same way that when you were younger, causing you embarrassment and self consciousness issues, then male chest reduction is for you!

"To me my moobs looked huge. If I wore a tight T-shirt, they'd poke out like women's breasts. The GP said it was down to excess skin tissue which is why exercise didn't work. Since surgery having a flat chest like everyone else has massively boosted my confidence." Nicky, 20

The facts

  • The term gynaecomastia comes from the Greek words for woman-like breasts, and describes the abnormal increase in glandular tissue experienced by men in this area.
  • Between 40 and 60 per cent of men suffer from gynaecomastia or ‘man boobs'.
  • As a result, chest reduction surgery has become one of the fastest growing cosmetic surgery procedures for men.

The procedure for male chest reduction surgery

  • Male chest reduction surgery is performed under local anaesthetic and takes between one and two hours to complete, meaning you will more than likely be treated as a day case.
  • Your cosmetic surgeon will make a small incision below each nipple before inserting a very thin plastic tube, known as a cannula into the area.
  • Liposuction (also known as fat removal surgery) will then be performed, by attaching the other end of the cannula to a vacuum device.
  • The small incision will then be repaired using stitches or dissolvable sutures.

What to expect from male chest reduction

  • Many men who choose to undergo male chest reduction surgery report feeling much more confident, and enjoy the feeling of being able to wear the clothes they choose and to swim or sunbathe without feeling embarrassed or self-conscious.
  • Chest reduction surgery usually results in a firmer and flatter chest, with increased definition.

Recovery from male chest reduction surgery

  • Recovery from male chest reduction usually takes one to two weeks, and you will only need to take a few days off work.
  • Because the incisions are so small and the stitches usually dissolvable, the area will heal quickly and there should be virtually no visible scarring.
  • You will be advised to wear an elastic garment around the chest for seven days, to protect the area from infection and to support the area during the healing process.
